Overview
The Lions Den Education Institute (LDEI) was established to provide communities opportunities to instill empowerment, self-determination and a sense of accomplishment to the children of the area. With these basic human attributes ingrained into the youth of our communities, enlightenment is assured for our future.
Our mission here at the LDEI is to fill the education gap created by the mainstream.
Our vision is to see every child learn to appreciate their self-worth, resilience and power.
Social emotional skills gained from our program are self-confidence, teamwork, and perseverance.
Success of the program will be measured in three ways; by the obvious joy in the children's minds and hearts and the culminating event produced, and an online anonymous survey students and parents can fill out to give feedback.
Historically school programs focused on academic content, here at LDEI, we understand children are multifaceted and deserve to have every aspect of their being served. Our program broadens children's horizons by teaching them…to keep going when its hard and that's when things pay off.
Our program develops character by having students work closely together, building an interdependence that shows working on the same goal moves all forward. Building much needed community awareness.
Goals Instill empowerment, self-determination and a sense of accomplishment to the children of the area to instill Self-confidence, Teamwork, Enlightenment for their future.
Head Lion Tyehimba Kokayi has a Master's Degree in Curriculum and Instruction with an Emphasis in the Arts!
Also a Bachelor of Arts in Ethnic Studies and a Minor in Dance.

STILT-WALKING
Our Stilt-walking Instructors have more than forty years experience among them. They were all trained by the same staff, which means there is a long tradition of safety, quality, and fun.
The idea for the Stilt-walking "Leg" of LDE Institute was born out of traditional practices dating as far back as The Rise of The Mali Empire. It was enthusiastically implemented once our Head Lion himself learned to safely execute the task.
It was so much fun and holds such cultural significance Lions Den Institute is now sharing the training with others.
We can even teach you how to Build Your Own stilts!
What a pleasure to have Traditional West African Stilt-walking Masters from New Orleans, share and teach so many tricks of the trade as well as many unique insights that have helped us become better instructors.

KLOWNING CLASSES
Come Let Knat T Dread Da Klown Share the techniques that have made children around the world laugh and smile. Everything from Klown "Warm-ups" to short skits!
In 2006 as The UniverSoul Circus toured the Bay Area, the Prescott Clowns were granted a small hour long in house performance. Tyehimba was thrilled at a chance to meet "Onion Head the Clown" and they instantly became friends. Every year the UniverSoul Circus came to Oakland, Tyehimba was honored to be invited backstage and introduced to the whole cast of fellow performers. There's even video floating around of the owner of the group, The Gifted Cedrick Walker himself, endorsing LDEI... that video made meeting the owner all the more exciting!
What an honor to make such a connection with such an amazing cast and company of performers as UniverSoul Circus.

ACROBATICS
Give your child the enriching opportunity to learn the fun filled, playful art and skill of circus acrobatics, in a safe and caring environment.
Named captain of his high school gymnastics team, Tyehimba's passion led him to became a local gymnastics instructor. He was recruited to join the Camp Winnarainbow staff as a gymnastics teacher and there is where he realized a circus acrobat uses alot of the same skills as a gymnast.
He has since gone on to trained many children to be casual backyard acrobats, as well as skilled professional performing artist.
This is a Family Affair... so come, be a part of the family and
"Get in da Den... the Lion's Den!"
